Clear Braces

Why clear braces? Many of us go through life disliking our smile or dreading having to smile in public just because of crooked teeth. The problem is, a large number of children refuse to wear braces just because they do not want to be called a "tin grin."

Well, help is at hand for all of us. Braces that are clear, made possible by advanced computing and precision manufacturing, now offer a solution.

What are Clear Braces?

These braces are similar to conventional braces, except that, instead of having metal bands around the teeth, the patient has tooth-colored ceramic brackets adhered to the teeth with a special cement.

Advantages of Clear Braces

Clear braces have several advantages over conventional braces. First, because they are tooth colored, they do not cause as much of a change in the patient's appearance during treatment. Also, they can be worn longer (if need be) without the orthodontist feeling as much pressure to take them off for aesthetic reasons.

Adults are especially fond of clear braces because they can be worn on the job, without everyone seeing that the patient is having this dental work done.

Lingual braces differ somewhat from facial clear braces in that there is a bracket cemented to the back side of each tooth and a strong wire is threaded through the brackets. The entire assembly is behind your teeth and is not visible. However, there are issues of damage with the rear teeth and the tongue. People often tend to talk with a lisp for a few weeks after using them. They usually cost more as well. Due to all of these negative factors, we do not recommend lingual braces for our patients. Instead, we suggest Invisalign for most patients looking to correct their teeth in an inconspicuous way.

Invisalign

Yet another type of clear brace is Invisalign. This method of orthodontics involves using a series of clear trays which are made in a laboratory. Each set of trays is worn for one week, before moving on to the next set. The computer technology behind this is very precise, and the results can be amazing.

Whichever method you use, in a year or two, depending on the correction required, you will have a sparkling smile that gladdens everyone around you. If two years seems too long, just remind yourself that if Tom Cruise could do it, so can you. Look at what it's done for his career!
